Pyay Diocese, Myanmar

Community members work to clear the land for construction.

The church in Myanmar has resiliently and faithfully shared the love of Christ through many struggles lately, including the death and devastation brought by COVID-19, Myanmar’s military coup in 2021, and deadly Cyclone Mocha in 2023. Despite all these trials, the church in Myanmar is growing, actively peace-building within the country, and passionately bringing the gospel of Christ to those around them through evangelism and church planting. The Diocese of Pyay is comprised mostly of rural villagers, materially poor but eager to share what gifts they have. Currently operating out of a shared space, they need their own permanent space close to the community they serve. Their ministry is growing, and they will need a place to host weekly services, baptisms, marriages, and diocesan gatherings.

Clergy and laity celebrate the consecration of the land, dedicating their work to God.

ARDF is excited to partner with them through a development grant of $146,667, helping them to build a new diocesan headquarters which will also allow the church to offer space for other community events. It is such a priority that the diocese has already begun raising funds from within their own community to contribute to this project! The local community is raising local funds and have consecrated and cleared the land, preparing to lay the foundation in the coming weeks. This is truly amazing, as the diocese of Pyay is not well funded. Anne Ni, a liaison for the Diocese of Pyay, explains that “Pyay is one of the new dioceses with very strong evangelism, but is the least funded place. Most of the members of the diocese are villagers from rural areas. In that sense, it is so exciting to help them grow in this capacity.” Their plan is to build the foundation and first floor with local funds, while the ARDF grant will be used for a second and third floor.

This new building will be a wonderful resource both for this new and growing diocese and for their local community as they continue to reach out with the love of Christ.
